From Walkable Wonders to River Trails: TCU's Master Plan Unlocks Greener Spaces, Flood Fixes, and Community Vibes |

TCU's iconic purple is getting a fresh green glow with its ambitious Campus Master Plan. Aimed at fostering a more vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment, the initiative promises expanded outdoor gathering spots and seamless connections to the nearby Trinity River trails. Currently, the river sits less than a mile away, but lacks safe paths for walkers and cyclists.
Jason Soileau, associate vice chancellor of planning, design, and construction, highlights the campus's core walkability that fades at the edges. By developing open spaces and trails along the eastern border, TCU could link directly to Forest Park, the Fort Worth Zoo, and surrounding neighborhoods. This "green network" is one of seven big ideas driving the plan, boosting mental well-being, fitness, and collaboration.
Stormwater management is a key focus, addressing recent floods on the east side. TCU is partnering with Fort Worth to mitigate these issues while creating recreational areas. Converting two blocks near Forest Park Boulevard and McCart Avenue into landscaped zones will offer community spaces that double as flood buffers.
Redeveloping east campus and Berry Street ties into the vision, transforming Berry into a lively destination. A grand, landscaped gateway will serve as informal recreation, event space, and a welcoming entry point. Soileau emphasizes intentional design for an optimal experience, noting excitement around these achievable enhancements.
This master plan isn't just about aesthetics, it's a holistic upgrade blending nature, sustainability, and connectivity. As TCU evolves, these green initiatives promise to enrich student life, solve environmental challenges, and strengthen ties with the broader community. Get ready for a campus that's as dynamic and inviting as the Horned Frogs themselves. |
