Fort Worth Football Community Scores Big for Kerr County Flood Relief |
Local teams unite to support flood victims through benefit events |
On July 18, the Fort Worth football community rallied together to aid families devastated by the early-July floods in Kerr County. A benefit scrimmage and fundraising tailgate were held at Nolan Catholic High School’s stadium, drawing players from area high schools, youth leagues, and alumni teams. Each participant generously donated their game-day earnings to support flood relief efforts.
The Fort Worth Football Alliance and the TCU Lettermen’s Club spearheaded the event's organization. They secured the venue, coordinated concessions donated by local restaurants, and arranged booths for partner nonprofits, including the Kerr County Community Foundation and Hill Country Hope. Fans purchased $10 wristbands for access to the scrimmage, with all proceeds directed toward emergency housing, cleanup supplies, and mental health services for displaced families.
Beyond the on-field action, volunteers collected nonperishable food, hygiene kits, and school supplies in the stands, thanks to support from United Way and several Fort Worth churches. Former TCU and Texas Tech players attended as special guests, sharing inspirational messages during halftime and signing autographs for young fans.
By the event's conclusion, the community had raised over $75,000 and gathered more than 3,000 pounds of goods. Organizers praised the turnout as a testament to Fort Worth’s football spirit extending beyond the scoreboard, uniting neighbors in the shared goal of helping fellow Texans rebuild stronger than ever. |
